DESTRUCTIVE INSECTS AND PESTS ACT, 1954.


AN ACT TO EXTEND THE DESTRUCTIVE INSECTS AND PESTS ACTS, 1877 TO 1929, TO AGENTS FOR THE BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF PLANT PESTS AND TO REPEAL CERTAIN ENACTMENTS. [9th December, 1954.]

BE IT ENACTED BY THE OIREACHTAS AS FOLLOWS:—

“The Acts”.

1. —In this Act, “the Acts” means the Destructive Insects and Pests Acts, 1877 to 1929.

Extension of the Acts to agents for the biological control of plant pests.

2. —“Insect” when used in the Acts shall, in addition to the meanings assigned to it by the Acts, include agents for the biological control of plant pests, namely, parasites, predators and micro-organisms in every stage or condition of development which are used for the control of insects, within the meaning of the Acts.

Amendment of section 7 of Destructive Insects and Pests Act, 1929.

3. —In section 7 (which relates to expenses) of the Destructive Insects and Pests Act, 1929 (No. 7 of 1929), the references to that Act shall be construed as including references to this Act.

Repeals.

4. —The enactments set out in the Schedule to this Act are hereby repealed to the extent mentioned in column (3) of that Schedule.

Short title and citation.

5. —(1) This Act may be cited as the Destructive Insects and Pests Act, 1954.

(2) The Acts and this Act may be cited together as the Destructive Insects and Pests Acts, 1877 to 1954.
