Part I

Preliminary and General

Short title.

1. —This Act may be cited as the Údarás na Gaeltachta Act, 1979.


2. —(1) In this Act—

the appointed day” means the day appointed to be the appointed day for the purposes of Part II of this Act by order of the Minister;

functions” includes powers and duties;

the Gaeltacht” means the areas for the time being determined to be Gaeltacht areas by order under section 2 of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1956 ;

local authority” has the same meaning as in section 2 of the Local Government Act, 1941 ;

the Minister” means the Minister for the Gaeltacht;

an tÚdarás” has the meaning specified in section 6 (1).

(2) In this Act a reference to performance of functions includes, with respect to powers, a reference to exercise of those powers.

(3) In this Act a reference to a subsection or paragraph is to the subsection or paragraph of the provision in which the reference occurs, unless it is indicated that reference to some other provision is intended.


3. —This Act shall come into operation on such day or days as may be fixed for that purpose by order or orders of the Minister, either generally or with reference to a particular purpose or provision, and different days may be so fixed for different purposes and different provisions.


4. —The Gaeltacht Industries Acts, 1957 to 1977, are hereby repealed.


5. —Any expenses incurred by the Minister in the administration of this Act shall, to such extent as may be sanctioned by the Minister for Finance, be paid out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas.
